The final was held at The Bentley Golf Club between Chelmsford Golf Club and Benton Hall on the 28th September. After winning 24 of the 30 games played in the league with our nearest opponents winning 14 of their 30 games we were ready to defend the Shield for the 3rd year running.
A strong team of Kelly Dee, Lily Hawes, Lily Frost, Katie Walsh and Lauren Gowers made up the team. Chelmsford won first 4 matches by 5 holes each match with the closing match being won 6 up. A very convincing win to retaining the Shield for the another year.
I would also thank Sue Boom, Sara Dunn, Gill Haysham and myself who all played in previous matches to get the team to the Final.
As winners of the Shield a team of 3 will now go through to the England Golf Champion of Champions Club a national competition against some of the best clubs in England. This year Lily Frost, Katie Walsh and Lauren Gowers represented CGC to come 3rd overall . An amazing achievement with the winners being all England Golf Players. Good Luck Girls the team will be announced in June for next year’s competition.
Since 1995 Chelmsford has won the shield 16 times. It is the Centenary year next year so no doubt Kelly will have eyes on winning again…
We are so lucky to have such an amazing talent throughout all of the team’s and it has been my honour to be Silver Shield Captain for the last 3 years winning the Shield each of those years. I am so very proud of all the players, caddies and supporters who give up their time for the team. A huge thanks to you all.
Kelly Dee will Captain the team from next year and I wish her all the best for a successful year.
