Chelmsford Golf Club welcomes societies and corporate bookings throughout the spring and summer months. Our society packages include a range of pre and post game dining options along with extras such as a dedicated starter and a Chelmsford Golf Club Goodie Bag. Your chosen meals can be served in a private dining room whilst our lounge bar offers an extensive range of beers, wines and soft drinks.

A Member of the Club may introduce guests on payment of the appropriate fee in the proshop before the start of play. Guest names together with that of his or her introducer shall be entered into the teesheet provided for the purpose. Members’ guests may play at times outside those specifically allocated for Members’ Competitions.
All Green Fees must be paid before the start of play in the Proshop.

Out of Bounds (Rule 18.2)
a) Beyond any hedge, fence, wall or line of white stakes and/or lines defining the course boundary.
b) On or beyond all roadways and parking areas from the Greenkeepers Compound across to the boundary of the club bordering the railway cutting.
c) Objects defining out of bounds are not obstructions and as such relief without penalty from them is not available.
Red Penalty areas are identified by red stakes, which indicate the location of the penalty area;
a) When a player’s ball is in a penalty area, including when it is known or virtually certain to be in a penalty area even though not found, the player may take relief using one of the options under Rule 17.1d.
b) Where a ball last crossed the edge of the red penalty area between holes 8 and 16 and holes 10 and 14 only, as an extra relief option adding one penalty stroke, the player may drop the original ball or another ball in a relief area using a reference point on the opposite margin of the penalty area estimated to be the same distance from the hole as the estimated point where the original ball last crossed the edge of the penalty area.
Size of relief area measured from reference point: Two club-lengths, no nearer the hole.
Ground Under Repair (relief may be taken)
a) Areas enclosed by white lines and/or indicated by GUR signs.
Relief may be taken when the player’s ball lies within the abnormal ground condition or it affects the player’s stance.
Immovable Obstructions (relief may be taken)
These include:
b) All roads and pathways, even if not artificially surfaced
c) Fixed Course furniture
d) When close to the putting green, relief for interference by an immovable obstruction to line of play may be taken if both the ball and the obstruction are in a part of the general area and the obstruction is:
· Within two club-lengths of the putting green and
· Within two club-lengths of the ball
Exception – No relief if the chosen line of play is clearly unreasonable
e) Areas enclosed by blue lines and/or indicated by NPZ signs
f) Staked or otherwise supported young trees
g) Newly turfed or newly seeded areas
a) Any Temporary green (except where being used on the hole being played)
b) The Normal green on a hole where a temporary green is being used
c) Any Practice green
On stroke play competition days a competitor must not practice on the competition course before or between rounds. The defined practice area which can be used on such occasions includes the putting green, chipping/bunker green along with the area to the right of the 14th hole and behind the 1st tee. The practice ground also includes the area beyond the 14th green which lies between the 17th green and 18th green. If a golf ball is mis-hit and ends up in the shaded areas on the diagram, this is not a breach of the rules and will not incur a penalty for the player.

Practicing Before Rounds (Rule 5.2b is modified as)
A player may only practice on the competition course before the following club competitions; Watbee Cup, Presidents Rosebowls, G&B Trophy, Trevillion Cups, Jubilee Bowl Foursomes.
Unless otherwise determined by a Rule of Golf the penalty for Breach of a Local Rule: General Penalty.
Match Play – Loss of Hole
Stroke Play – Two Strokes
Fog, Thunder or Extreme Weather Events
The sounding of the Klaxon (a continuous long blast) during Fog, Thunder or Extreme Weather conditions is a Mandatory Requirements to immediately leave the Course. Your Ball should be marked if you are in a Competition.
The fact that the Course has not been officially closed at any time does not warrant that it is fit or safe for play.
When the adverse condition has passed, two short blasts of the klaxon will indicate the re-commencement of play.
The R&A recommend a maximum shot-time of 40 seconds (including assessment and receiving yardages). Players should usually be able to play more quickly than that and are encouraged to do so, including (in Stroke Play) by using the Ready Golf procedure detailed in Rule 6.4b(2) (see page 44 of the player’s Edition Rule Book).
SHIRTS
Shirts must be of a collared polo style with short or long sleeves. T-shirts, rugby, or football style shirts are not acceptable. Shirts must always be tucked into trousers or shorts. Turtle or polo necked tops may be worn in the winter.
TROUSERS
Recognized golf styled trousers are preferred. Chinos or five pocket style trousers without cargo pockets may be worn.
Paramilitary, camouflage, leather, cargo, tracksuit (jogging) trousers any type of jeans or non-golf Activewear are not permitted.
Trousers must not be tucked into socks.
SHORTS
Shorts should be tailored recognized golf wear and worn at knee length. Athletic shorts or other non-golf Activewear are not permitted.
SOCKS
Socks worn with shorts can be knee length, short or trainer style and must be predominantly white. Football socks and dark coloured ‘day wear’ socks must not be worn with shorts.
SHIRTS/TOPS
Tops should be a collared polo style and can be long or short sleeved or sleeveless Racer-back styles are permitted, halter neck styles are not, turtle neck tops can be worn. Tops should be tucked in or if designed to be worn outside must be long enough to avoid showing midriff.
TROUSERS, CAPRI’S AND CROPS
Recognized golf style trousers, capris or crops are permitted. Golf leggings may also be worn. Gym leggings and other non-golf Activewear are not acceptable.
SHORTS, SKIRTS, SKORTS AND DRESSES
Shorts, skirts and skorts must be recognized golf style wear and worn at a length appropriate for golf and the individual. If not ‘built in’, skirts should be worn with under shorts.
Dresses must be recognized golf wear; they should have a collar (shirt or mandarin style). Racer-back styles are permitted halter necks are not. Dresses should be worn at a length suitable for golf and the individual. Under shorts should be worn with dresses.
Athletic and gym shorts or any other non-golf Activewear are not permitted.
SOCKS
When worn with shorts, skirts, skorts, capri pants or dresses, socks can be ankle or trainer length and should be predominantly white but can be colour coordinated with an outfit.
SHOES – All
Only recognized golf shoes may be worn. Trainers or other casual shoes are not permitted.
CAPS AND VISORS – ALL
Caps and visors should be worn with the peak forwards and not worn in the Clubhouse
Members, Guests and Visitors should dress appropriately for the Event they are attending, but generally ‘smart casual’ is considered everyday wear.
Smart, clean jeans can be worn. Ripped, shredded, cut down faded jeans, jogging bottoms or workwear are not acceptable.
All hats, caps and visors should be removed. Hooded tops can be worn as long as the hood is worn down.
Clean golf clothing is allowed but wet or muddy golf clothing is not. Waterproofs wet or otherwise should not be worn in the Clubhouse.
Clean, smart trainers and other smart casual shoes may be worn in the Clubhouse with or without socks. Golf shoes, Beach Flip-flops or Sliders are not allowed.
Chelmsford Golf Club expects Members, Guests and Visitors to adhere to this dress code.
Please do not be offended if a member of staff reminds you of the Dress Code.
• The Clubhouse and balcony are no smoking areas. Smoking is allowed outside the changing room entrance where a bin is provided
• Although smoking on the course is allowed (other than in exceptional circumstances), used butts should be placed in the bins around the course and not discarded on the course
• The use of mobile phones for making and receiving calls, on the course, in the Clubhouse or on the balcony, is not allowed and they should remain on silent. You may make or receive calls in the car park or in the changing rooms
• Course Marshalls are regularly on site and their role should be respected and their guidance followed. Disrespectful players will be reported to the Club Management and asked to leave the course
• Changing rooms are available for you to change into your golf clothing/shoes. Do not use the car park for changing
• Players are not allowed to share golf bags
• Do not distract your playing partner/s by either talking, moving or standing too near them when they play their shot
• At Chelmsford Golf Club we allow the respective Captains priority on the course. Please invite them to play through
• Trolleys are not allowed on tees, greens, approaches to the green, in bunkers or between bunkers and the green
• Ensure the course signage is always observed including the Tee matrix
• Starting from the 15th tee is not allowed unless in exceptional circumstances and by the agreement of the General Manager / Course Marshall
• Bunkers must always be raked after use
• Please repair pitch marks on greens, replace fairway divots and use the mixture in the tee boxes to repair any tee damage
• Respect players teeing off from the first tee when using the practice nets
• Do not play until you are certain that other players are out of range or greenkeepers are aware of your presence
• Shout ‘FORE’ if you think that a shot may potentially hit someone
• Ensure your practice swing does not endanger any of your playing partners
• It is the responsibility of every player to play the game at a good pace. Course Marshalls will request you speed up if you fall too far behind
• Ready golf is recommended to assist the pace of play except in Matchplay events
• Always be aware of and considerate to the group in front and behind you
• Slower groups should ask the group behind to ‘play through’ if they are continually having to wait to play their shot/s
• A provisional ball should always be played if you suspect you may not find your ball
• Players involved in a competition match may claim the right to pass ‘non-competition’ players
